Attending the meeting there were representatives of ICCO Organization - Netherlands, Center for Rural Development in Central (CRD) and Consultative and Research Center on Natural Resources Management(CORENARM). The purposes of the review were to (i) Assess and make the documentations of progress, achievements, shortcomings and the need-improved points; (ii) Evaluate and analyze the changes in global term; (iii) Draw on the lessons learned and make recommendations helping the EU to more effectively implement Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade(FLEGT) in the future.
The partners of two sides discussed on issues relating to the role and involvement of civil-social organizations in VNGO-FLEGT network, the activities and achievements of the Project FLEGT - Central Region in the first year. Beside sharing from the delegations about the advantages and disadvantages in the forest management and protection, the project’s staff also introduced activities relating to community forestry and models of livelihood development promoting maximum efficiency in the forest management and protection.
The assessment group also visited and worked with FPD in Thua Thien Hue and learnt about the impact of Voluntary Partnership Agreement(VPA) on forestry in Vietnam. At the meeting, Mr Nguyen Dai Anh Tuan- Chairman of FPD in Thua Thien Hue discussed and shared the benefits and challenges, simultaneously emphasized and highlighted the role and the involvement of the forest management agencies at local level, social organizations, community organizations and timber processing enterprises joining the VPA-FLEGT process.
